Las Cascadas
The classic hike from Coroico, though definitely not our favourite. It’s an easy walk with great views, through grasslands which sometimes fill with orchids. It’s best to visit in the rainy season (December-march). From August to November the waterfalls consist of nothing more then a drip (except if it has been raining the days before). Below the fall is a big concrete water tank, where the drinking water from the village comes from.
You can also visit with a taxi, that takes you straight to the most spectacular of the falls, the lower third one. A short trail leads to the base of the fall from the curve just passed the stream.
The walk is 3 hours one way. If that’s enough walking for you, head down to the main road. It is easy to find transport back to town. You can see a lot of special plants and agriculture on the road, about which a guide can tell you a lot more.
You can also visit on a bicycle, following the trail or via the main road. The Cascadas are included in three different CXC tours (see Services – Bikes).
